Instead of protesting slavery and demanding the immediate freedom of those poor souls, we agonize over American slavery that was abolished 200 years ago.

Why are there people out there who are ready to kill/maim while arguing over the evils of American slavery? Yet, show nonchalant zero-interest in 2017 slavery?
Perhaps it can be explained by a psychological/sociological phenomenon known as virtue signalling.
