I think a lot of these things have been around for a long time. The difference is now everyone hears about it. 50 years ago when there was no internet or 24-hour news channels, a woman suffering from something like this would just be an odd case she, her family, and a few doctors knew about. Now it goes viral and everyone hears about it.
