1. RAID is for availability, to allow the server to continue functioning even when a drive fails. (If you have hotswap bays, you can replace the drive without having to reboot)
2. Offsite backups with multiple snapshots are for when the shit REALLY hits the fan

Yes i know, my last HDD fail did caused some data loss(but nothing critical). But all previous fails went fine. Offsite backup is best method but it can be toomuch hassle if you have a lot of data like images and videos.
