You are assuming Pence would be unscathed by this. Pence is part of the "Trump Admin". If Trump was getting this intel Pence would know it was coming from somewhere. This wasn't just implicating Trump but also key figures in his admin. It would be really hard for Pence to play dumb about all this..
Maybe it will be President Ryan...
